Petra Martic v Magda Linette Head to Head
Linette holds a 2-0 lead over Martic, last defeating her in the 2019 Indian Wells Open in three sets.

Petra Martic is off to a good start in the North American swing as she defeated the former World No. 11 Anastasija Sevastova in the opener in San Jose with 6-3, 6-3.
Playing in her first tournament since Wimbledon, the 30-year-old Croatian will be hoping for a much better run than the one she has had in the first half of the season. Currently ranked #33 on the singles circuit, she has incurred more defeats than wins in 2021 (12-14).
With the exception of a few tournaments, Martic has lost mainly in the opening rounds in most of the events. Her highlights include a quarterfinal appearance in the Phillip Island Trophy and WTA Parma and a semifinal run in the Italian Open. That said, consistency is not her strong suit which also explains why she started the year in the top 20 but has since dropped out of the group.

Linette Dispatches Kerkhove
Magda Linette of Poland hardly faced any difficulties when she took the Dutch qualifier Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove in the opening match here. It was a clinical, straight-set win for Linette as she won the game 6-3, 6-3.
Oddly enough, her season so far has been quite similar to Martic’s and can be summed up with a win-loss tally of 8-10. That said, her form has improved greatly in the last few tournaments as she reached the semifinal in Strasbourg and the third round in the French Open and Wimbledon. In the two slams, Linette defeated Ashleigh Barty and Elina Svitolina to record the first top 10 wins of her career.
It is also worth noting that Linette’s two singles titles have come on hard courts – one of which came right here in the United States in the 2019 Bronx Open.
Martic v Linette Prediction and Tip
There is not a great deal that separates the two players on the WTA Tour. Both of them are fairly experienced and have posted strong starts in the tournament. By all means, this is an evenly matched fixture and it just may come down to how they perform on Wednesday.
