Norrie Confident After Maiden Title Win

Ranked just inside the Top-30 in singles currently,  Cameron Norrie has his eyes on being British number one with a good run here this week.

After the disappointment of finishing second-best to Stefanos Tsitsipas and Matteo Berrettini at the Lyon and Queen’s Club finals this year, the Briton won his maiden ATP title at Los Cabos a couple weeks ago.

The ever-improving British star, who recorded third-round finishes at all three Grand Slams — Australian Open, Roland-Garros and Wimbledon Championships — upstaged American Next-Gen stars Taylor Fritz and Brandon Nakashima in the semifinal and final to seal his first championship win at Los Cabos.

Norrie has shown his all-court skills with decent returns across surfaces this year and continued the run with a quarter-final showing last week at the ATP 250 in Atlanta losing out to Finish Next Gen Emil Ruusuvuori.

After a  first round bye, Norrie started his campaign against American Marcos Giron and was pushed to a deciding set tiebreak which Norrie won with ease, but not before a few hurdles in the earlier parts of the match.

Good Week Shaping Up For Nishikori

Kei Nishikori who was once ranked number four in the world, has had a difficult few seasons mixed with injuries, long layoffs, poor form and Covid-19 itself as he is ranked just within the top 70 in the world now.

Once ranked fourth in the world, Nishikori has suffered from injury, pandemic absence and Covid-19 itself to fall from the highs and consistency he was accustomed to.

The Japanese tennis star had a good run last week at his home Olympics in Tokyo,  making the final eight and despite being outplayed by Novak Djokovic, will take pride from his run and victories like the one against world number seven Andrey Rublev in the opening round.

Nishikori was the runner-up at the 2014 US Open as well as semi-finalist in 2016 and arrived in the US looking to rekindle some of that form on these hard courts ahead of the US Open.

He looked to continue his good run from the Olympic week and has so far done well to prevail in straight sets against the likes of the big servers in Sam Querrey in the opener and then more so Alexander Bublik in the second round. Nishikori looks assured in his ground game and return and serving consistently as well.

Norrie v Nishikori  Prediction and Tip

This makes for a good contest between both men, given their recent form and how they have looked this week. It will be down to who plays the bigger points well, with both looking good this week. While Nishikori’s experience will be beneficial, Norrie has been consistent of late and should be able to prevail in a decider.

Tip: Norrie to win in three sets: 10/3 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
