Brandon Nakashima v Denis Kudla Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between Nakashima, who is 19, and Kudla, who is nine years older.

Nakashima only made his ATP main tour debut last year and broke into the top 100 for the first time earlier this year, but he is already making waves on the senior tour.

Last week he made his first ATP final in Atlanta, eventually losing to John Isner, and he has continued to impress in Washington, with two straight set victories so far.

First he beat Alexei Popyrin of Australia, the world number 72, dropping just three games in each set to the Australian.

He then took on the number six seed, dan Evans of Great Britain, in a match that saw a tight firsts et, with one break apiece leading to a tie-break, Nakashima was flawless on serve, Evans was not, and the American claimed the set.

The British  player then crumbled completely and Nakashima raced through the second set without losing a single game. The entire set took just 25 minutes to complete.

Kudla Continues Revival

Kudla had not been in the best of form coming into Atlanta, but he managed to arrest his recent decline with a hard fought victory over the Spanish veteran Feliciano Lopez in the first round,

And, inspired by that, he then raised his game further to beat Taylor Fritz, who was the tenth seed in Washington.

Neither man started the match well and five of the first six games went against serve. However, in the middle of that sequence, Kudla did hold once, and he was able to consolidate that advantage to take the first set.

Fritz saved three match points but he was only delaying the inevitable and Kudla converted the fourth.

Nakashima is in excellent form right now, and he is tipped to keep his recent fine run going against his American compatriot.
