Steve Johnson v Ricardas Berankis Head to Head
The pair have played each other twice before, both on outdoor American hard courts, and Berankis has won each of their two previous meetings. The Lithuanian first won in Atlanta in 2015, and then again in New York five years later.

Johnson Knocks Out Number Three Seed
Johnson was given a relatively kind draw in the first round against the Indian Ramkumar Ramanathan, the world 204, but his victory was not without difficulty and the Indian took him to a tie-break in the second set of their match.
More impressive by far, though, was his second round victory over the Australian number three seed, Alex de Minaur, the first time he had beaten a player in the top twenty for several years.
The first set went with serve, and, with nothing to separate the pair, it went with serve. De Minaur was the first to earn a mini-break and, although Johnson was able to level things up, he dropped his serve on set point against him.
However, it was the American who forced a break of serve early in the second set. De Minaur broke back, but immediately dropped his serve again, and it went to a third set.
The tide had turned, and de Minaur was broken in the first game of the third set. Johnson was offering nothing in his serve, and all the pressure was now on the Australian to hold his, something that proved too much in the end for the world number 18. He was broken again, and Johnson served out to love.

Berankis Defeats Serbian Kecmanovic
Berankis did not come to Washington in confident mood, having suffered a series of early defeats in tournaments recently.
However, after his battling win over the American Mitchell Kroeger in the first round, he able to build on that with a more assured performance against the Serb Miomir Kecmanovic, the number 15 seed.
The first set saw both men struggle to hold serve, although there was only one break and that went against Kecmanovic in the fourth game. He had numerous break back opportunities, could not take any of them and Berankis eventually closed out the set.
The Lithuanian then took a firm grip on the match by going a double break-up in the second set.
Kecmanovic recovered one of the breaks, but was immediately broken again, and the match was as good as over. Berankis duly served out.
Johnson v Berankis Prediction and Tip
Although Berankis has won both their previous matches, Johnson is the higher ranked player and, buoyed by his victory over de Minaur, will start this match as favourite.
