Denis Kudla v Mackenzie McDonald Head to Head
The pair have played five times before, all on the Challenger Tour and McDonald leads their head-to-head series by three matches to two.
Kudla won in Tiburon in 2015 and also in San Francisco two years later. However, McDonald won in Sacramento in 2016, in Tiburon a year later and most recently, in Dallas in 2018.

Having battled past the Spanish veteran Feliciano Lopez, and compatriot Taylor Fritz in the second, Kudla was pitted against the teenager Brandon Nakashima, a man who was in excellent form after reaching his maiden ATP final in Atlanta last week.
And he looked on course for another quarter-final place as he broke Kudla in the sixth game of the match and went on to claim the first set comfortably.
The pair swapped service breaks in the second set, and Kudla faced two break points which, if either of them had been taken, would have meant Nakashima would have been serving for the match.
They were saved, however, and it went to a tie-break which Kudla duly won.
Each man dropped his serve at the start of the third set, and then Kudla had a break point opportunity. He could not take that one, but two games later he got another chance, and this time he took it.
He was able to serve out for love next game.

McDonald’s First Quarter-Final of 2021
McDonald has made his first quarter-final of 2021 on the senior tour, and his progress has been well-deserved after three good results, beating first Nick Kyrgios and then Benoît Paire to earn himself a third round tie with Ilya Ivashka of Belarus, the number 65, a man who was in good form and had already beaten him twice earlier this year.
It was the American who started strongly, breaking his opponent in the opening game of the match, only for Ivashka to hit back and level.
However, McDonald forced another break and consolidated it this time to claim the first set.
The second set went with serve, although both players had break point opportunities which they could not make count.
That was until Ivashka dropped his serve again and McDonald handed the chance to close out the match next game, duly took it.
Kudla v McDonald Prediction and Tip
There might be very little in this match, which could come down to fine margins. McDonald, though, has the better head-to-head record, and that may just give him the edge.
Whatever happens though, a surprise semi-finalist in Washington is guaranteed.
