Daria Kasatkina v Magda Linette Head to Head

Surprisingly, Linette holds a 1-0 lead over Kasatkina – last defeating her in the 2018 Australian Open second round in straight sets.

Kasatkina Keeps Garcia at Bay

24-year-old Russian Daria Kasatkina started as the number four seed in San Jose and consequently, was given a bye into the second round.

In her opening round, she met Caroline Garcia of France and handed her a three-set defeat with 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 to squash any hopes that the Frenchwoman had of delivering a decent run.

Kasatkina’s form over the last couple of seasons had taken a sharp hit as a result of which, she had fallen to the No. 70 spot in the rankings. But in 2021, she has done a terrific job of turning it all around and staging a remarkable comeback. Currently ranked World No. 31, Kasatkina has already made it to three singles finals on the tour – the Phillip Island Trophy, St. Petersburg Trophy, and Birmingham Classic.

She won the title in the first two while in Birmingham, she lost to Ons Jabeur.

It is also worth noting that historically, Kasatkina hasn’t fared that well in the US Open series – can this be the year that she finally reverses that trend?

Linette Dispatches Martic

After beating Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove of the Netherlands in the first round, Magda Linette found herself facing the Croat Petra Martic in round two. Starting as the underdog there, the Polish rose to the occasion and defeated Martic 7-5, 7-6(5) to reach the quarters.

This marks the first time since the Strasbourg Open that Linette has delivered a deep run on the WTA Tour. Over there, she was a semifinalist and later reached the third round in the French Open and Wimbledon too. In comparison to her form at the start of the season (where she lost mainly in the opening rounds), these results are considerably better.

Plus, Linette also reached the semifinal in the Paris Slam women’s doubles with Bernarda Pera – thus adding yet another feather to her cap.

Kasatkina v Linette Prediction and Tip

Kasatkina will start this match as the favourite on account of her overall season and form. She is finally beginning to play the kind of tennis that propelled her to the top 10, making it hard to imagine Linette upsetting the number four seed.
