Jelena Ostapenko v Katerina Siniakova Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players and Siniakova had won that in straight sets on the hard courts of Beijing in 2019.

Ostapenko Resurrection Sees Her Break into Top 30

After hitting a season low of 54th in the world after having also crashed out of the top 80 about two seasons ago, Ostapenko is now showing signs of a resurrection that has been a long time coming.

While the Latvian and former world number five went out in the first round at the Tokyo Olympics in the last tournament she played, Ostapenko has had a year to remember so far.

Especially in more recent times.

She has had two sparkling performances; one at Rome where she reached the quarterfinals and then at Eastbourne where she defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Ons Jabeur, Daria Kasatkina, Elena Rybakina and Anett Kontaveit to win the title.

It was her first title since 2019. And it has helped Ostapenko break into the top 30 of the WTA rankings.

Can she now kickstart the US Open Series with a win?

Siniakova’s Never Won a Match Here

Having featured in two editions of this competition, Siniakova is yet to win a match at Canadian Open. The first time she entered the tournament, Siniakova didn’t even make it to the main draw while in the next, she lost in the first round.

Coming into this edition of the competition, Siniakova has had a few good results going her way already. In fact it has been a tale of two halves this year for the Czech.

Before Parma Open, Siniakova had won just three main draw matches. Since then, there have been appearances in the final of Bad Homburg Open, semifinal in Parma and the quarterfinal at Prague Open recently.

And while hard court isn’t quite Siniakova’s favourite surface, her form should give her a lot of confidence coming into this one against a player who herself could dictate terms in the contest.
