The pair have played each other once before, on clay in Kitzbuhel last year, Kecmanovic coming from behind to win in three sets.

Kecmanovic Struggling for Form

Kecmanovic reached his first ATP final in 2019, losing to Lorenzo Sonego on the grass of Antalya, and won hs maiden event in Kitzbuhel on clay last year.

By comparison, 2021 hs largely been a year to forget so far for the Serb, with his best result coming on home soil in Belgrade in April, where he reached the quarter-final before losing to world number one and compatriot Novak Djokovic.

His form, though, since then has been indifferent, and he has not been beyond the second round of any event, including the Olympics, where his participation in the competition was ended by Ugo Humbert of France.

In Washington last week, he was well-beaten by Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania, the world number 86, in straight sets in the first round.

Nishikori Reaches Washington Semi-Final

Nishikori, a former top 4 player, is back on the comeback trail after the injuries which have derailed his recent career.

In Rotterdam he made his first quarter-final since 2019, repeating the feat in Dubai.

Then on home soil at the Olympics, he recorded his first win over a player in the top ten for three years by beating Andrey Rublev, but he could not repeat his feat from Rio five years earlier in claiming a medal.

He was soundly beaten by Djokovic in their quarter-fianl match.

Nevertheless, he was able to consolidate on that by reaching the semi-finals in Washington last week, beating in the process Sam Querrey, Alexander Bublik, Cameron Norrie and Luke Harris, all players currently ranked higher than him.

He lost in the end to the American Mackenzie McDonald, but can take heart from the progress he has shown in 2021.

Kecmanovic v Nishikori Prediction and Tip
