Kvitova Not in Great Touch
2012 Rogers Cup champion Petra Kvitova begins her challenge on Tuesday, but the seventh seed has not been in great form of late. She lost in the first round at Wimbledon and the Prague Open and in the second round in Tokyo.
A two-time Wimbledon champion, Kvitova won the Qatar Open final earlier this year to clinch her 28th career title, but other than that success there hasn’t been much to celebrate for the Czech this year.
She came agonisingly close to a 39th career final in Hamburg, but was edged out in a dramatic three-setter by Angelique Kerber in the semifinal.
The 31-year-old left-hander, who has had phenomenal success on all types of courts, has won 19 titles from 27 finals on hard courts. Back in 2012, she defeated Li Na in the final to win her only Canadian Open title.
Can she deliver again? One can never count her out. She may not be in great form, but if there is one player who knows how to turn things around, it is Kvitova.

Ferro Advances After Tomljanovic Retires
Ferro moved into the second round at the Canadian Open after her opponent Ajla Tomljanovic withdrew midway during their first round clash.
Breaking the Frenchwoman twice, Tomljanovic took the first set 6-2, but Ferro made a comeback in the second, breaking the Australian’s serve on two occasions to level the match at one set apiece. Tomljanovic couldn’t continue further and retired from the contest with the scoreboard reading 2-6, 6-2.
The World No. 84 Ferro had reached the third round of the Australian Open and was a semifinalist in Lyon earlier this year. She also had a couple of good clay-court tournaments, reaching the quarterfinals in Istanbul and Laussane.
A two-time champion on the tour, Ferro is at her best on clay courts but having done well on hard surfaces this year she will be looking to put up a fighting display against Kvitova.
Kvitova v Ferro Prediction and Tip
Kvitova will be hoping to get into a rhythm quickly with a brisk start to her campaign. Expect her to win in straight sets.
