Andrey Rublev v Fabio Fognini Head to Head
Rublev and Fognini have been involved in eight career, head-to-head meetings till date, with the Italian holding a marginal 5-3 lead over his Russian opponent.

Shouldering his country’s hopes at the biggest sporting stage alongside Daniil Medvedev, Rublev went down in the Tokyo opener to seasoned Japanese star Kei Nishikori.
On a rare day when the big-hitting Russian couldn’t hit his straps, Nishikori was all over him as he closed out a facile 6-3, 6-4 win.
However, Rublev did manage to get extract some bit of redemption out of himself as, partnering compatriot Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the Russian went on to clinch the mixed doubles gold at the Olympics.
Making his first Tour appearance since his run to the last 16 at this year’s Wimbledon Championships, Rublev will open his Toronto campaign against old rival Fabio Fognini.
Reducing his career, head-to-head deficit against the Italian in their last meeting in the third round of Wimbledon, the Russian came through in four sets.
Not having won a title since the Rotterdam Open this year, the Russian, currently ranked No.5 in the rankings, will be looking to regain confidence and get some wins under his belt on his favored hard court ahead of the US Open.

Fognini Finished in the Last 16 at Swedish Open
After finishing in the third round at All England, Fognini opened his Swedish Open campaign with a last-16 fixture against Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena.
However, the veteran Italian fell to a defeat in three sets to the unheralded Spaniard to crash out of the tournament.
Ranked 36th in singles currently, Fognini hasn’t had fruitful returns this season. Barring a quarter-final appearance at the Monte Carlo Masters, a tournament he won in 2019, the Italian has not had the run of results going his way this season.
He came to Toronto eyeing redemption, a chance to get his season back on track ahead of the year’s last Grand Slam at the Flushing Meadows.
He opened the tournament with a hard-earned victory over big-hitting German Jan-Lennard Struff but faces tough hurdle into the last 16 in the form of the Russian World No.5.
Rublev v Fognini Prediction and Tip
Rublev prevailed in the last head-to-head battle against Fognini and should fancy putting it past the Italian again to reduce the deficit on this score.
Th0ugh a veteran of 34 now, Fognini can still spring a surprise on top rivals on his day.
