Rafael Nadal v Lloyd Harris Head to Head

In their very first head-to-head meeting, in the third round of the recently concluded Washington Open, Nadal was stunned in three sets by his unheralded South African opponent Harris.

Nadal Reeling off an Early Exit at Washington

Coming into the Washington Open, his first event on the men’s Tour since failing in his bid to lift a record a 14th championship title at Roland-Garros, Nadal was expected to go deep in the US capital.

The Spaniard seemed to be progressing well on that front as he opened his campaign with a typically workmanlike victory over experienced American Jack Sock.

Nadal raced to a 6-2 win in the opening set, only to see the American stage a valiant fightback by taking the match to a deciding set.

The final set produced end-t0-end tennis, with both players getting the best out of each other. It eventually veered to a tiebreak, which saw the Spaniard besting his opponent 7-1 to move into the last 16.

Having got the measure of the seasoned American, the Spaniard, by most estimates, wasn’t to be challenged, much less upset, by 49th-ranked South African Lloyd Harris.

However, Harris, playing out of his skin, took down the 13-time Roland-Garros champion in three sets. After losing the opening set to the rampaging South African, the Spaniard roared back into contention by cruising to a win in the second.

The South African, however, had the last laugh, besting Nadal in the decider to cap off a sensational win.

The Spaniard has a chance to get his own back and set the record straight in a return duel with the South African in the Canadian capital.

Harris Coming off Nishikori Defeat

Riding high on a stunning upset of 20-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal in the last 16, Harris set up a quarter-final clash against veteran Japanese star Kei Nishikori.

However, Nishikori got a measure of the high-flying Japanese in straight sets. Though finishing in the last eight, the South African would have taken a lot of positives from the US capital and set himself up for another strong finish against the superstar Spaniard in Toronto.

He had earlier finished in the third round in Atlanta. But the last-eight finish in the US capital will have given him the belief to gun for a maiden Tour title at the Canadian Open.

Nadal v Harris Prediction and Tip

While Nadal will be thirsting for revenge after going down to Harris in the last-16 at Washington, the South African, who is known to punch above his weight against the top stars, will have his eyes on another sensational outing against the Spaniard.
