Felix Auger-Aliassime v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head

They met once at the ATP Cup last year, with Lajovic winning in straight sets.

Auger-Aliassime Enjoying Another Productive Year

He lost out in the second round in 2018 and could only reach as far as the Round of 16 in 2019; two years on, a more matured and experienced Felix Auger-Aliassime returns to Toronto as a home favourite, with a great chance of making a deep run in the tournament.

Ranked No. 16th in the world, the 21-year-old Canadian has enjoyed another productive year. He comes into the tournament with a 25-16 record, which includes two final appearances and a quarterfinal debut in the majors.

He had a disappointing Olympics campaign, bowing out in the first round to Australia’s Max Purcell, and then faced a shock Round of 16 defeat to Jenson Brooksby in Washington last week.

But Auger-Aliassime knows how to bounce back. Remember he had a forgettable 4-6 record on clay courts this year, but he rebounded on grass, finishing 10-3, which included an eighth career final in Stuttgart, a semifinal appearance in Halle and a maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance in Wimbledon.

His early season form was great as well, as he reached the final in Melbourne-2 and made a Round of 16 debut at the Australian Open.

One win from the last four matches will concern the “next gen” star, but with the home crowds behind him he may be inspired to reach new heights in Toronto.

Lajovic Fights Back to Advance

Things are slowly falling back in place for Dusan Lajovic, who fought back from a set down to eliminate Emil Ruusuvuori in the first round on Tuesday.

Both players began the contest by breaking each other’s serves, but it was the Finn who seized the initial advantage by breaking Lajovic on two more occasions and taking the first set 3-6. Ruusuvuori then had an early break in the second, going up 0-2, before the Serb embarked on a comeback mission. Breaking Ruusuvuori thrice over the next seven games, he clinched the second set 6-3 to force the decider.

The third set began with both exchanging breaks, but it was Lajovic who got the vital second break at 4-3 and then held on to the lead to see off the qualifier with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win in two hours and eight minutes.

Following the win, the World No. 44 improved to 13-19 this year. He had begun the season well, but lost his way in the middle, before getting a few wins under his belt over the last one month to give his season some impetus.

Auger-Aliassime v Lajovic Prediction and Tip

Although he lost to Lajovic in their previous meeting, Auger-Aliassime will still be the favourite to win this contest. He has displayed great form this year, plus he will have the support of the crowd at home. Expect him to advance.
