Medvedev Survives Against Bublik
Medvedev had never lost to Alexander Bublik before, and he kept that record intact on Tuesday. But unlike their previous four meetings, this match was a close affair, with Bublik giving Medvedev a run for his money.
The Kazakh, who lost to Medvedev at the French Open and the Tokyo Olympics this year, got the only break of the opening set to take a set of the Russian for the first time in his career. Medvedev by his own admission wasn’t at his best in the initial phases, but then rain halted play for a while, which probably helped the top seed return to his elements. The Russian got a break each in the second and third sets to win the two-hour contest 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 and improve to 4-0 against Bublik on the tour and 5-0 overall.
The 2019 Canadian Open runner-up, Medvedev saved three of four break points and won 85% first serve points, which included 13 aces.
Following Tuesday’s win, the World No. 2 is 40-9 this year, which includes titles on the hard courts of Marseille and on grass in Mallorca.

Duckworth Stuns Sinner
Qualifier James Duckworth continued marching ahead at the Canadian Open with a shock second-round win over Washington Open champion Jannik Sinner on Wednesday.
The 19-year-old Italian, who reached a career-high ranking of 15 this week, couldn’t break the Aussie’s serve in the match. Duckworth saved both break points that he faced in the match and got a break in each set to win the contest 6-3, 6-4 in 77 minutes.
The win improved the 29-year-old to 12-10 this year. He had beaten American Taylor Fritz 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 in the first round.
Ranked 85th in the world, Duckworth had qualified for the main draw after rallying from a set down to beat Canada’s Peter Polansky in the second qualifying round. He didn’t have much trouble in dispatching Ilya Marchenko in the first qualifying round.
Medvedev v Duckworth Prediction and Tip
Medvedev will be the overwhelming favourite to win this contest despite Duckworth’s current form. Expect the top seed to advance to the quarterfinals.
