Cori Gauff v Johanna Konta Head to Head

In their one and only encounter on the WTA Tour, Gauff was the winner. That match took place in the 2020 French Open first round, where the American won 6-3, 6-3.

An Easy Campaign for Gauff thus Far

17-year-old Cori Gauff continues to make great strides on the tour. Having cracked the top 25, she will now look to go further and in all fairness, her chances of doing so are looking quite good.

She has had an easy campaign in Montreal so far, starting with a straight-set win over Anastasija Sevastova and then, a walkover against Anastasia Potapova in round two. Gauff was 5-0 against the Russian before the latter retired from the match with an injury.

Looking at Gauff’s overall form this season, she has been nothing short of impressive and sensational. She won her second singles title in the Emilia-Romagna Open – in the same tournament, she also conquered the doubles title with Caty McNally. Additionally, Gauff reached the penultimate rounds in the Italian Open, French Open, WTA Dubai, and Adelaide International.

In her wake, Gauff has punched well above her weight and defeated the likes of Petra Martic, Maria Sakkari, Aryna Sabalenka, Ashleigh Barty, and Jennifer Brady.

Konta Upsets Svitolina

Johanna Konta has delivered one of the biggest upsets in the tournament by knocking out the number three seed Elina Svitolina in round two. She beat the Ukrainian – a bronze medal winner in the recent Olympics – 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The World No. 41 is playing in her first tournament since the Nottingham Open in June where she won her first singles title since the 2017 Miami Open. Up until that point, Konta’s season so far has been marked by a series of early-round defeats. This also explains why she has dropped out of the top 15 in the rankings, having started there at the start of 2021.

Konta has made it past the third round in the Canadian Open just once in her career – it was in 2016 when she reached the quarterfinal.

Gauff v Konta Prediction and Tip

Gauff will start as the favourite but owing to Konta’s superior experience and overall form on the tour, it may not be an easy win for the American.
