Roberto Bautista Agut v Diego Schwartzman Head to Head

Agut Struggling Since Wimbledon Fourth Round

Since his run to the last 16 at this year’s Wimbledon Championships, Agut hasn’t had the run of results going in his favor thereafter.

Launching his Swiss Open campaign with a fourth-round outing against Arthur Rinderknech of France, the experienced Spaniard went down in straight sets to crash out of the tournament.

After being routed 2-6 in the opening set, Agut fared no better in the second as the Frenchman moved through the gears effortlessly to close out an emphatic straight-set win.

Hoping for a turnaround in his fortunes at the Austrian Open, the Spaniard suffered another setback as he went down fighting to unheralded compatriot Pedro Martinez in his tournament opener at Kitzbuhel.

While he finished in the fourth round at All England, he fared dismally at the other Grand Slams, failing to progress to the second week at Roland-Garros as well as the Australian Open.

However, kicking off his campaign at the Canadian Open with a third-round outing against Tommy Paul, the current World No.17 looked somewhere close to his best as he whipped the American in straight sets to set up a last-16 clash with plucky Argentine Diego Schwartzman.

Schwartzman Outdoes Paire to Make Round Three

Schwartzman’s year on the men’s Tour, so far, hasn’t panned out much differently to Agut’s as the Argentine has struggled to put his best foot forward across surfaces and events.

His last event was the Wimbledon Championships where he was sent packing in the third round after losing in four sets to Hungarian Marton Fucsovics.

He opened his campaign with an emphatic takedown of Benoit Paire and followed it up with a slightly more workmanlike win over Liam Broady of Great Britain.

However, the Hungarian had his measure in the last 16, producing a stunning upset of the current World No. 14 on the way to reaching the farthest anyone from his country ever had in a Grand Slam.

Making his first Tour appearance since his Wimbledon exit, Schwartzman opened his Toronto campaign with another outing against Paire.

The Argentine took down the maverick Frenchman again in straight sets to set up a last-16 clash with Agut.

Agut v Schwartzman Prediction and Tip

Going by their head-to-head record, one wouldn’t dare call the tie in favor either player till the last point is played. Both Agut and Schwartzman will head into this battle on the back of a similar run of results and one suspects that neither will start as a favorite in this salivating last-16 fixture.
