Ons Jabeur v Jessica Pegula Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at Quebec in 2018 and Pegula had won that one in straight sets.

Jabeur Overcomes Andreescu in Three-Setter

For the second match in a row, Jabeur needed to overcome a slow start before winning it in three sets and moving to the next stage.

Jabeur, who had needed a three-setter against Daria Kasatkina in the second round, overcame the higher-ranked and local player Bianca Andreescu in three more sets to set up her place in the quarterfinal.

In a match that lasted two hours and 28 minutes, Jabeur fell in the first set tie-breaker before winning the next two 6-4, 6-1 to enter the last eight.

Andreescu had the early lead in the first set only to lose that advantage but then won the tie-breaker and Jabeur did the same in the second before it felt like the set was headed into another tie-breaker.

However, serving at 4-5 in the second set, Andreescu dropped her serve and then went on to lose it two more times to fall apart in three sets.

Can Jabeur now make it to her first ever semifinal of a WTA 1000 event?

Pegula Ends Collins Run

In what was an excellent third round match, Pegula ended the 12-match winning run of fellow American Danielle Collins on Thursday to march into the last eight.

She won 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 needing two hours and 29 minutes and six match-points to complete the victory.

Pegula, who had earlier overcome Anett Kontaveit and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in two difficult three-setters apiece, faced a whopping 16 break-points in the encounter but managed to clip Collins’ breaks down to four.

On the other hand, Pegula got herself that extra, decisive break in the 12th game of the final set to pocket the encounter against a player who had been in an excellent run of form that had included a couple of title victories.

It will be interesting to see how Pegula goes from here on having now been stretched to three sets in each of her three rounds here.

Jabeur v Pegula Prediction and Tip

Despite Pegula’s run so far, this could go Jabeur’s way very early and a lot will depend on how the American physically responds to it given the amount of time she has already been on court over the last four days. Backing a Jabeur win here.
