They have met once before, at the Cincinnati quarterfinal last year, but the match ended with Opelka retiring in the first set.

Tsitsipas Storms Into the Semis

World No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas ended Casper Ruud’s 13 match win streak with a straight sets win in the quarterfinal of the Canadian Open on Friday.

Dominating the contest from start to finish, the Greek defeated the Norwegian 6-1, 6-4 in an hour and 16 minutes to notch his 45th win of the season. Tsitsipas broke Ruud twice in the first set and once in the second, while saving the only break point that he faced in the match.

The French Open finalist, who won his first Masters 1000 title in Monte Carlo earlier this year and then added a seventh career title in Lyon, also finished as runner-up in Barcelona and Acapulco this season. He survived a second-round scare against Ugo Humbert, defeating the Frenchman 6-3, 6-7 (13-15), 6-1 in two hours and 35 minutes, but breezed past Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-2 in an-hour-and-20-minute Round-of-16 contest.

The 22-year-old has been phenomenal this season and will be aiming for a spot in the sixth final of the year on Saturday.

Opelka Overpowers Bautista Agut

World No. 32 Reilly Opelka served up 18 aces on his way to beating World No. 17 Roberto Bautista Agut in the quarterfinal on Friday.

The big-serving American, who saved a match point on Thursday to edge out Lloyd Harris 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-4) in two hours and 46 minutes, needed just an hour and 24 minutes on Friday to dispatch the 10th seed 6-3, 7-6 (7-1).

The 6’11” Opelka didn’t face a break point against Bautista Agut, while converting the only one that he had in the first set.

It’s been a fantastic week for the World No. 32 who fought back from a set down to beat Nick Kyrgios in the opener, and then scored a convincing straight sets win over World No. 21 Grigor Dimitrov in the Round of 32.

The 23-year-old, who was a semifinalist in Rome earlier this year, improved to 14-14 following Friday’s win.

Tsitsipas v Opelka Prediction and Tip

The big American has been in terrific form, but can he keep the winning momentum going on Saturday? Will be a tough ask as the Greek has been in sublime touch this season. Expect Tsitsipas to advance to a sixth final in 2021.
