Jannik Sinner v Federico Delbonis Head to Head

Sinner Stunned By ‘The Duck’

Fresh from capturing his second title of the season in Washington, Jannik Sinner was a colossal favorite to beat Australian qualifier James Duckworth in Toronto last week.

Considering that the Aussie lost in the first round to Tennys Sandgren in D.C. and had won a measly three games in Cologne when he last played Sinner, his chances of recording an upset appeared doom and gloom. He was trading at 4/1 ML to win.

But Sinner was a spent force both physically and emotionally at the Canadian Masters. His effortless power turned into a charitable machine of unforced errors. And Duckworth who did so well to smother the Italian teenager with his counterpunching skills won 6-3 6-4 in just 76 minutes.

Sinner will look to get back into shape for the Cincinnati Masters and the US Open. The real positive is that he will not be defending any points at these two tournaments. Last season, he did not even qualify for the Western & Southern Open, and he was beaten in the first round at Flushing Meadows.

Delbonis Searches First Win Outside Clay

Federico Delbonis is quite possibly the only player inside the top 100 who has not won a match outside clay in 2021. He has played 39 matches in total and won 23 (all on clay). What makes this record belivable is that he has only played three non-clay tournaments this season and failed to scale the first hurdle.

But with the clay-court season out of the way for the foreseeable future in 2021, will Delbonis win another tennis match this season?

The Argentine lefty is still entrenched inside the top 50, but has modest record in North America particularly at this juncture. He has reached the second round of Cincinnati Masters just once in three previous visits.

Delbonis will not be defending any points at his next tournaments. He fell in the qualifying rounds at this tournament last year, and he suffered a first-round exit at the hands of Daniil Medvedev at the US Open.

Sinner v Delbonis Prediction and Tip

After a full week of rest, Sinner should be fit to get back to his best form. And given Delbonis’ winless record outside clay in 2021, we are backing the Italian to cruise into the second round.

Tip: Sinner to win AND over 19.5 games: 6/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
