Madison Keys v Petra Kvitova Head to Head

Keys leads Kvitova 4-3 and has beaten the Czech in their last two meetings. Their most recent one took place in the 2020 Brisbane International; Keys won that match in three sets.

Keys, Struggling in the American Swing

Madison Keys arrived in Cincinnati on the back of unexciting and rather disappointing results in the WTA San Jose and Canadian Open.

In both those tournaments, the 2017 US Open runner-up fell in the first round to Shuai Zhang and Rebecca Marino respectively. By the looks of it, she is reverting back to the form she had when she started her 2021 season – back to back early-round losses in Doha, Dubai, Miami, Charleston, Madrid, and Rome.

In the French Open, she reached the third round to set the stage for a promising grass swing. In Bett1Open, Keys was a quarterfinalist while in the Wimbledon Championships, she made it to the fourth round.

Currently ranked World No. 26, Keys has got the goods to go deep in a tournament and reclaim her former spot in the top 10. She has already conquered the Cincinnati Open in 2019 – all she needs now is to find her groove and rhythm.

Kvitova, Sailing in the Same Tide

World No. 12 Petra Kvitova has been struggling with her form as well although, her woes aren’t as serious as Keys’.

Following a bleak start to the 2021 season, she won the Qatar Open and later reached the quarterfinal in the WTA Stuttgart and Madrid Open. In the big-ticket tournaments of the Italian Open and French Open, the 31-year-old struggled a great deal to move past the early rounds.

These bouts of inconsistencies continued well into the grass swing – while she did reach the semifinal in the Bad Homburg Open, she lost in the first round of Wimbledon and later, WTA Prague. It was a similar story for her in the Olympics as well as she lost to Alison Van Uytvanck in the second round.

Her last tournament was WTA Montreal where she was beaten by a very determined and resurgent Camila Giorgi 6-4, 6-4 in round two.

Keys v Kvitova Prediction and Tip

Kvitova has the experience and a superior pedigree here to dispatch Keys. But given her rocky form (and the American’s), it is quite tricky to call an outright winner.

Nonetheless, we’re in for a good game of tennis here.
