Sloane Stephens v Caroline Garcia Head to Head
The pair have played each other four times before, and Garcia leads their head to head series by three matches to one.
In 2014, Garcia won their Fed Cup match, but Stephens then avenged that defeat at Eastbourne. However, it was Garcia who won in 2018 in Rome, and again in their very tournament last year, both victories coming in straight sets.
Stephens Showing Some Signs of Form at Last
It has been a steep fall from grace for Stephens, who four years ago, was the winner of the US Open and, in 2018 reached the final of the French Open.
At that time was number three int eh world, but it is a mark of her decline that her ranking has now dropped out of the top 60.
Her struggles have continued this year, and she has suffered a host of early exits from tournaments.
However, there have been some signs of a silver lining. She reached the quarter-finals in Charleston in April, and then the following month, the semi-finals in Parma.
Encouraged by that she had her best run at a Grand Slam for several years, reaching the fourth round of the French Open before losing to the eventual winner Barbora Krejcikova.
Stephens also reached the third round of Wimbledon,
She has been beaten in the second round in her last two tournaments – by Danielle Collins in San Jose, and, last week, by Arnya Sabalenka in Montreal.

Disappointing Season for Garcia
Garcia has twice made the third round in Cincinnati before, most recently in 2018,
She is the winner of seven senior WTA titles, although the most recent of those successes came in Nottingham two year ago. Garcia also has a Grand Slam trophy in her cabinet, having claimed the French Open doubles title with partner Kristina Mladenovic in 2016. The pair went on to lose in the final of the US Open that same year.
2021 has not been her best year in tour so far, with her best result coming in Lausanne, where, in a weakened field, with many of the world’s top players away at the Olympics, she reached the semi-finals only to lose to compatriot Clara Burel.
Beyond that, she has struggled to get beyond the second round in tournaments, the stage at which she was beaten by another Frenchwoman, Fiona Ferro, last week in Montreal.
Stephens v Garcia Prediction and Tip
Although Garcia has the better head-to-head record, Stephens is showing some belated signs of a return to some sort of form after several years in the doldrums. She will be hoping to continue her mini career renaissance.
