Karolina Pliskova v Yulia Putintseva Head to Head
Pliskova holds a 4-1 lead over Putintseva, last defeating her in the Miami Open 2019. As for the Kazakh’s sole win over her Czech adversary, it came back in 2012 Cagnes-Sur-Mer in a qualifying round.

Karolina Pliskova continues the search for her first singles title of 2021 – the fact that she has come quite close to it on three distinct occasions only means it is just a matter of time before she finally breaks the jinx.
Just last week in the Canadian Open, the number five seed delivered a terrific performance to reach the final after defeating the likes of Donna Vekic, Amanda Anisimova, and Aryna Sabalenka. She ultimately succumbed to a very determined Camila Giorgi in straight sets to clinch her third runner-up trophy.
The 29-year-old was beaten by Giorgi in the third round of the Olympics as well. However, the runner-up feats from the Wimbledon and Italian Open will somewhat serve as a consolation for her.
Pliskova is starting with a bye into the second round in the Western & Southern Open – she won the event in 2016 and reached the semifinal the following year.

Putintseva Dispatches Zhang with Ease
Yulia Putintseva started her run in Cincinnati with a clinical 6-2, 6-0 win over Shuai Zhang.
With this, she has bettered her performance from the last week in Montreal where she fell to Veronika Kudermetova in the first round. On the whole, Putintseva has had a rather shaky season with bouts of inconsistencies and good runs.
Case in point, she reached the third round in the WTA Abu Dhabi and Australian Open, and the quarterfinal in Volvo Car Open (defeating Garbine Muguruza on the way). Then later on the tour, Putintseva also won the title at the Budapest Grand Prix – her first such feat since the Nuremberg Cup in 2019.
At the same point, the 26-year-old Kazakh has seen her fair share of early-round defeats in the Olympics, Hamburg Open, Eastbourne International, French Open, Grampians Trophy, among other events.
Pliskova v Putintseva Prediction and Tip
Putintseva has never made it past the second round in Cincinnati and by the looks of it, she is unlikely to do so this year either. Expect Pliskova to march into the third round comfortably.
