Elina Svitolina v Angelique Kerber Head to Head
Svitolina and Kerber have been involved in as many as 14 career, head-to-head meetings till date, with the Ukrainian holding a 9-5 lead over the German. Interestingly, however, there’s a lot less to choose between these two rivals on hard courts, with Svitolina currently leading 6-5 in matches played on concrete.

Svitolina Coming off Montreal Opener Loss
Coming into the Canadian Open on the back of a stunning, come-from-behind win over Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan to grab the bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, Svitolina drew veteran British star Johanna Konta in the opening round.
The match seemed to be panning out on expected lines with the Ukrainian racing to a 6-3 win in the opening set against an opponent, who, though skilled in no mean measure, is still finding her feet in the circuit after overcoming persistent injury struggles.
However, the Ukrainian lost her grip on the match in the second set as Konta came out throwing punches at her. The Briton turned the tables quite spectacularly on the Svitolina, racing to a lead and holding on to it to take the match to a decider.
In the final set, Konta raised her game further to put Svitolina on the mat and put the finishing touches on a memorable 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win.
Eyeing a return to the form that took her to a podium finish at the Tokyo Olympics, the Ukrainian will open her Cincinnati campaign against a familiar foe and a three-time Grand Slam champion against whom she holds an enviable, head-to-head record.
However, that doesn’t make her task any easier against Kerber, whose two last two tournaments saw her lift the inaugural Bad Homburg title and finish in the semifinals at Wimbledon.

Kerber Made Wimbledon Semifinals
Currently ranked 21st in singles, Kerber came into this year’s Wimbledon Championships high on adrenaline and confidence after a grandstand finish at the inaugural Bad Homburg Open that saw her lift the championship trophy.
She opened her All England campaign with a comfortable win over Serbian Nina Stojanovic and followed up with contrasting victories over Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo, Belarussian Aliaksandra Sasnovich and American teen sensation of Coco Gauff to reach the quarter-finals.
An emphatic win over Czech star Karolina Muchova in the last eight saw her set up a semifinal showdown with current World No.1 Ashleigh Barty.
However, she couldn’t bring home the gravy in the last four, going down fighting to the Australian in straight sets. Barty went on to lift her maiden Wimbledon title.
Against Svitolina at Cincinnati, Kerber has a chance to reduce her head-to-head deficit and find her bearings on hard court in time for the US Open. However, the job is easier said than done.
Svitolina v Kerber Prediction and Tip
They have been veterans of many head-to-head battles and though Svitolina holds a 9-5 lead over the German, the recent run of results would serve as motivation for Kerber to take down the Ukrainian.
