Jelena Ostapenko v Angelique Kerber Head to Head
The pair have played each other twice before, and their head-to-head record is one win apiece. Kerber won their Wimbledon semi-final in 2019, but Ostapenko won ion clay at the Rome Masters earlier this year.
Ostapenko Benefits from Brady Retirement
Ostapenko’s recent return to form, which saw her win her first title for three years at Eastbourne, continued with her first round victory in straight sets over the Slovenian, world number 39, Tamara Zidansek, who reached the semi-finals of the French Open.
That earned her a second round tie against Jennifer Brady, the number 13 seed, and world number 14.
The first set went with serve until the American broke in the seventh game, only for Ostapenko to recover the break immediately after a marathon game that featured nine deuces points.
Ostapenko then faced two more break points, but Brady could not convert either, and it meant a tie-break was required. The seed proved to be the stronger player and she claimed the first set.
The pair swapped breaks at the start of the second set and it then reverted to serve until the ninth game when Ostapenko broke once more.
However, the injury that had caused Brady to miss the whole of the grass court season recurred and, after just one point of the next game, with Ostapenko serving for the set, the American was forced to retire.

Kerber Knocks Out Svitolina
Three time Grand Slam winner Kerber has twice been a finalist in Cincinnati, although the most recent of those appearances was back in 2016.
One of the most inconsistent players on the tour, she is playing in her first event since Wimbledon, where she reached the semi-finals, only to lose to Ashleigh Barty.
And, so far, she has claimed two notable scalps, beginning with Maria Sakkari of Greece, the French Open semi-finalist, who she beat in straight sets.
Next she was pitted against the number four seed, Elina Svitolina of Ukraine, in what developed into a tightly fought contest.
The first set was scrappy with both women struggling on serve. However, Kerber took it by virtue of the fact that she was able to hold with greater regularity than her opponent.
The match settled down in the second set and went with serve until Kerber was broken in the sixth game. Another breakoff serve gave the Ukrainian the set, and, at that point, she seemed in charge of the match.
Midway through the third set the pair swapped breaks, but then Kerber broke Svitolina once more.
That gave her, ultimately the chance io serve for the match. Svitolina earned two break back points, could not convert either of them, and the German finally sealed the win.
Ostapenko v Kerber Prediction and Tip
This is a match between two women who, are a period of extended poor form, found some sort of uplift during the grass court season.
Kerber will begin the favourite because the surface suits her better and she has a fine record in this tournament.
