Rinderknech Cracks Top 100

After years of toiling in the lower rungs of the tennis tour, Arthur Rinderknech’s hardwork has finally paid off. At 26, Rinderknech entered the ATP’s Top 100 for the first time after producing a tremendous run of results on the main tour.

Rinderknech reached back-to-back quarterfinals at the ATP 250 events in Bastad and Gstaad, and took it up a notch in Kitzbuhel where he made his maiden ATP tour semifinal.

But since losing to Casper Ruud in Austria, the big-serving Frenchman did not play Toronto or Cincinnati. His hardcourt swing will begin at Winston-Salem. The 26-year-old has an excellent record on the surface where he has won 20 matches including Challenger level.

He won the Istanbul Challenger as a qualifier, beating the likes of Brandon Nakashima and Benjamin Bonzi. Aside from that, there was an admirable quarterfinal showing on home soil on the indoor hardcourts of Marseille.

Is Time Running Out for Simon?

Regardless of what happens this week, Gilles Simon could be winding up his career very soon. Earlier this year, the 36-year-old stepped away from the game for over a month for motivational reasons and admitted his mental health is also a concern playing in a bubble.

The French veteran remains tightlipped on the issue of retirement. Simon has posted three match wins in the 2021 season across all levels.

Simon is no longer afforded lofty positions at ATP main draws anymore. He exited the world’s Top 100 earlier this year for the first time in more than a decade. He is without a hardcourt match win since the opening week of the season, and his struggles for adjusting to the tour in a pandemic year were well documented.

Simon is 3-16 for the year, and had suffered 11 successive first-round exits before the San Marino Challenger a couple of weeks ago.

Rinderknech v Simon Prediction and Tip

It is very difficult to motivate yourself when you are not winning. In Simon’s case, it is a very sad state of affairs. Rinderknech looks nailed-on to reach the second round.
