Monteiro Winless Since French Open

Thiago Monteiro has been one of the worst performing players on the ATP Tour in the last three months. The Brazilian lefty last won a match at the French Open when he beat fellow South American Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets.

Over half of Monteiro’s 11 wins this season have come in the first half of the season. Four of those wins came at the Great Ocean Road Open where he reached an ATP tour semifinal.

His barren spell began after Cordoba where he managed three wins from 14 tournaments. Considering that his ranking has been so low not to warrant automatic main draw slots at the prestigious tournaments, he did not qualify at any ATP Masters 1000 events.

But Monteiro will have an opportunity to finetune his game before the US Open at Winston-Salem – a tournament he has managed to win once in two previous visits.

Duckworth Ascends to Career-High Ranking

James Duckworth has not won a title either on the Challengers or at tour-level this season, but in fairness, this has been his best season yet in terms of progression.

Duckworth has been through injury hell down the years, and at one point his injuries grew to resemble a grocery list. He has needed multiple surgeries on his foot, and both shoulders to enjoy this stellar run of form.

Two weeks ago, the 29-year-old Aussie made the Round of 16 at Masters 1000 level, beating Taylor Fritz and then mastering an upset win over D.C. champion Jannik Sinner at astronomical odds of 4/1.

Duckworth has only ever managed to play a full schedule once in the past four seasons, this has proven to be a very productive year for him. At Wimbledon, he made the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time. And coupled with his exploits in Toronto, he has now ascended to a career-high ranking of World No. 69.

Duckworth hasn’t won a main draw match in four previous visits to Winston-Salem.

Monteiro v Duckworth Prediction and Tip

It goes without saying Duckworth’s recent resurgence will lock him as the overwhelming favorite. Monteiro’s personal struggles have been evident for months now. It would take a very brave man to back the Brazilian here.

Tip: Duckworth to win AND over 19.5 games: 6/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
