Ludmilla Samsonova v Bethanie Mattek-Sands Head to Head

Hoping to reap a better harvest at the Cincinnati Masters, Samsonova cleared the qualifying rounds, beating compatriots Vera Zvonareva and Anna Blinkova and setting up a first-round meeting with two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka.
However, she couldn’t make a match of it against Azarenka, as the veteran Belarussian dominated from start to finish to come away with a facile 6-2, 6-3 win.
Against Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the Cleveland opener, she has a chance to draw an ounce of redemption for all the matches that didn’t go to plan.
With the American essentially a doubles player these days and ranked a distant 362nd in singles, Mattek-Sands isn’t likely to pose a stiff challenge to Russian, Samsonova should be wary not to take things for granted.

Mattek-Sands More a Doubles Specialist
The Cleveland Championships would see Bethanie Mattek-Sands returning to singles action after a long time. She hasn’t featured in singles in any of the tournaments she has played this year.
Her current ranking in singles is, for obvious reasons, nothing to write home about but it isn’t something that gives her sleepless nights in the twilight of her career.
