Kristina Mladenovic v Zarina Diyas Head to Head
Diyas holds a 2-1 lead over Mladenovic, last defeating her in the Wimbledon 2014.
On the doubles circuit, the duo met as recently as the 2021 edition of the same tournament where the pairing of Diyas and Arina Rodionova beat that of Timea Babos and Mladenovic in straight sets.

Kristina Mladenovic is starting as the seventh seed in Chicago and finds herself facing a relatively comfortable path to the quarterfinals.
In her last two singles tournament – WTA Montreal and Cincinnati, Mladenovic had not made it past the qualifying rounds so the fact that she is starting in the main draw here is certainly an assuring sign.
Looking at her overall season, the 28-year-old hasn’t been entirely consistent on the singles circuit. She has had sporadic bursts of deep runs with the highlights being the quarterfinal run in WTA Nottingham, a second-round appearance in the Italian Open as a qualifier, and a third-round run in the Australian Open.
These results are not entirely surprising for the World No. 57 who is more of a doubles player. However, the former doubles world number one has struggled there as well with her only accomplishment of the season being the runner-up feat in the Italian Open.

Diyas, Starting as a Qualifier
World No. 110 Zarina Diyas is coming fresh off a quarterfinal run in the Chicago Challenger last week. Over there, the Kazakh defeated the likes of Sara Errani and Madison Brengle but ended up losing to Ann Li in the quarters.
Diyas delivered a similar run in the preceding WTA tournament of Ladies Open Lausanne – back then, she was fairly more impressive as she defeated Camila Giorgi en route.
These tournaments mark the positives of her 2021 season. Earlier in the year, Diyas had also made it to the third round in the Australian Open and Phillip Island Trophy but failed to build on it in the subsequent competitions.
Here in the Chicago Open, the 27-year-old started as a qualifier and defeated Eden Silva and Han Na-Lae to reach the main draw.
Mladenovic v Diyas Prediction and Tip
Both players are sailing in a similar boat in terms of recent form but Mladenovic boasts of a superior pedigree. While she will start as the odds-on favourite, anything can really happen here.
