Doubles Specialist Herbert a Lucky Loser
Herbert is very much known as a double’s specialist – with regular partner Nicolas Mahut, he has completed a clean sweep of all the Grand Slam titles, including the US Open back in 2018.
In June they won the French Open title for the second time.
In terms of singles, he has been in four senior finals and lost all of them. Among those defeats was the Winston-Salem final of six years ago, when he was beaten by Kevin Anderson in straight sets.
This is his first tournament since losing in the first round of Wimbledon and he was made to enter the qualifying competition here, beating first Eduardo Nava of the USA in three sets, and then he was beaten Tung-Lin Wu of Taipei in straight sets.
However, he entered the main draw as a lucky loser and was given a bye into the second round.

Coria, Beaten Finalist in Bastad
Coria has just reached a career high world ranking after a successful clay court season, which saw him reach his first senior ATP final, losing to Casper Rudd in Bastad.
He has also made the final of three Challenger events this year, winning in Prostejov in the Czech Republic in June, and later than same month, finishing runner-up in Milan and then in Salzburg.
However, all those matches were on clay, his favourite surface, and he tends to struggle when he is away from it, as proven by his first round defeat at the Olympics.
Fortunately for him, perhaps, he drew another clay court player in the first round in the form of the world number 58, Lorenzo Musetti of Italy.
In the first set, Musetti was the first to come under pressure on his serve and the Italian was finally broken, only to hit back straight away to level. However, he then was broken once more and eventually Coria took the set.
The pair swapped service breaks twice in the middle of the second set, but, with the Argentine serving to stay in it, Musetti forced the break which levelled the match.
However, all that hard work was undone as the Italian soon found himself a double break down in the third set.
He was able to recover one of them and saved two match points, but Coria was able to serve out next game.
Herbert v Coria Prediction and Tip
Although Coria is the higher ranked player, his progress this year has been driven by his success on clay. Herbert, whilst primarily known as s doubles player, has appeared in the final of this tournament before, and would appear to hold the upper hand in this contest.
