Frances Tiafoe v Mikael Ymer Head to Head
There has just been one previous meeting between Tiafoe and Ymer before this, not counting a match that was held in the Next Gen Finals where Tiafoe had won. At the 2020 Auckland Open, Ymer shocked Tiafoe in three sets to advance to the second round.

Tiafoe Continuing to Improve in US Open Series
While he did get knocked out in the second round at the Washington Open earlier this month, Tiafoe has continued to improve over the next few tournaments. And a quarterfinal appearance here in Winston-Salem bears testimony to that.
Having made it to the main draw at the Toronto Masters as only a lucky loser, Tiafoe then proceeded to defeated Yoshihito Nishioka and Denis Shapovalov to make it through to the third round there.
And following a second round appearance at the Cincinnati Masters last week, he has now defeated Andy Murray and Thiago Monteiro in back to back matches here to make it to the last eight.
The latter of those wins here came in an hour and 43 minutes and was a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6 (2) victory but one that should give Tiafoe immense confidence of making it to his first ever semifinal of the season.

Ymer Quells Purcell Challenge
Slowly, but steadily, Ymer is showing the kind of form that had been expected out of him ever since he made it to the ATP Next Gen Finals a couple of years ago. He has now reached the quarterfinal of this tournament, which makes it his third successive last eight entry and that should work wonders for his confidence.
Having earlier done that at Gstaad and Kitzbuhel, Ymer defeated Stefano Travaglia in the first round here, before crushing Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the second.
And facing Max Purcell in the third round, he took his time to get going before sending the Aussie packing 7-5, 6-2 to reach the last eight.
An early exchange of breaks in the first set took them to 6-5 on serve in favour of Ymer who then applied enough pressure on the Purcell serve to get the vital break and set.
The second set was a lot easier was Ymer though, who raced off to two earlier breaks and while Purcell got one back, the Swede broke for the third time to complete the win.
Tiafoe v Ymer Prediction and Tip
This might not be the battle of equals on paper but one that could see a gruelling three-setter which could go either way.
