Pablo Carreno Busta v Ilya Ivashka Head to Head
There have been two previous matches between these two players and both were won by Carreno Busta. Both came on hard court surfaces, at the 2016 US Open and the 2019 Australian Open and Ivashka failed to win even a set.

And some of that was on display last week where he made it to the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Masters. The Spaniard overcame Dominik Koepfer and Hubert Hurkacz rather easily in the first couple of rounds there before falling to Daniil Medvedev.
Here, he was pushed into a third set by Soon-woo Kwon in his second round encounter following an opening bye but a 6-2, 6-3 rout of Koepfer yet again, in the third round, makes him a heavy favourite to ride deep into this tournament.
The question here is with the US Open lurking, will Carreno Busta be a tad distracted coming into this encounter and the rest of the competition?

Ivashka Continues Giant-Killing Run
It has been a season to remember for Ivashka, who has already climbed up to his career-best ranking of 63rd in the world. And it has been thanks to the consistency he has shown most of the season, including in this tournament that has helped him grow.
Ivashka, who had earlier eased past Andreas Seppi and then shocked Marin Cilic from being a set down, ripped Jan-Lennard Struff apart in the third round to take up his appointed spot in the last eight.
He won 6-2, 6-1 in a match lasting an hour and three minutes, where he broke Struff four times out of the 11 opportunities he got but more vitally, Ivashka did not face a single break-point all match.
Can he now push Carreno-Busta into a corner in a match where he would know he might have a chance given the looming US Open?
