Kontaveit Powers Past Garcia
World No. 30 and second seed Anett Kontaveit didn’t break a sweat as she powered past Caroline Garcia in the second round on Wednesday.
Not facing a single break point in the match, Kontaveit broke the Frenchwoman twice in the first and once in the second for a 6-3, 6-3 win in 69 minutes. The Estonian won 92% points on teh back of her first serve and a total of 80% of her service points. She also won 42% of return points in what was a complete domination of the former World no. 4.
In the opening round on Monday, Kontaveit had got off to a terrible start losing the first set 1-6 to America’s Lauren Davis. But the Estonian made an emphatic comeback double bagelling Davis in the next two.
Kontaveit had come into the tournament on the back of five consecutive defeats, but she seems to have regained her form with two convincing wins. A finalist at the Grampian Trophy and the Eastbourne Championships this year, Kontaveit will be playing in a fifth quarterfinal on Thursday.

Siniakova Ends Hanatani’s Lucky Run
Olympic doubles champion stormed into the quarterfinals with a 6-0, 6-0 drubbing of lucky loser Nagi Hanatani.
The Japanese player who made the main draw as a lucky loser had got an easy pass into the second round after her first round opponent Ana Blinkova retired after just one game. But luck ran out for the 402nd ranked player as she could win just four points on Siniakova’s serve and could muster just 14 points in the entire match.
The Czech, who beat eighth seed Shelby Rogers 7-5, 6-1 in the first round, converted 6 of 7 break points, winning 71% return points and 86% points on her serve.
The World no. 53 will be playing in her fifth quarterfinal of the season on Thursday. She was a finalist in Hamburg, a semifinalist in Parma and had two quarterfinal finishes in Istanbul and Prague.
Additionally, the 25-year-old has reached five doubles finals with Barbora Krejcikova this year, winning four of those titles, including the French Open and the Tokyo Olympics gold.
Kontaveit v Siniakova Prediction and Tip
Both players are in great form, but given the level of competition they faced in the last round, Kontaveit’s win was far bigger than her opponent’s. The Estonian will be the favourite to advance but may have to do it in three.
