Magda Linette v Irina-Camelia Begu Head to Head

They met twice on the ITF Circuit in 2010 and once on the tour in Seoul in 2019 with Linette winning all three of the matches.

Linette Destroys the Top Seed

Edged out by Daria Kasatkina in the quarterfinals in San Jose earlier this month, World No. 51 Magda Linette got her revenge against the Russian in Cleveland on Thursday.

The sixth seed Pole needed just 63 minutes to overpower the top seed 6-1, 6-2. Serving six aces, Linette was broken once in the match, but she converted five of six break points to breeze into a second semifinal this season.

The 29-year-old will now be looking to reach a fifth career final, as she chases a third title since winning in Bronx in 2019 and in Hua Hin last year. She came close to reaching the title clash in Strasbourg earlier this year but was stopped in the semifinal by Sorana Cirstea.

Linette hasn’t dropped a set throughout the week. She defeated America’s Emina Bektas 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 in the opening round and then knocked out Linda Fruhvirtova 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 in the Round of 16 on Wednesday.

Begu Powers Past Sasnovich

World No. 74 Irina-Camelia Begu celebrated her 31st birthday in style with a comprehensive 6-2, 6-4 win over Belarus’ Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Not broken once in the entire match, Begu converted three of 12 break points to win the contest in an hour and 37 minutes.

Like Linette, Begu, too, hasn’t dropped a set this week, defeating third seed Ekaterina Alexandrova 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 in the first round and Polona Hercog 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 in the second round.

Featuring in a first semifinal in over a year, Begu will be hoping to reach an eighth career final with hopes of adding to her four previous WTA titles. The former World No. 22 was 10-10 in the main draws prior to the start of this tournament, with her top performances coming at the Gippsland and the Phillip Island trophies where she reached the quarterfinals and at Wimbledon, where she won the first two rounds.

Linette v Begu Prediction and Tip

Begu notched a convincing win on Thursday, but the way Linette drubbed Kasatkina she becomes an instant favourite to win this contest. Plus she has an unblemished record against Begu giving her an added psychological edge.
