Marton Fuscovics v Andreas Seppi Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, Fucsovics winning on each occasion. Both matches were in  2018 on outdoor hard courts, first in Canberra, and then in Beijing.

Seppi in the Twilight of His Career

Seppi is now at the veteran stage of a long career, which saw him first compete at the US Open back in 2004. In the intervening years, he has made it to the third round on three occasions, but he has never been further.

It has been three years since he last won a match in this tournament.

The Italian though has tasted success this year, winning  a Challenger event in home soil in Biela in March, although his last success on the senior tour was when he lifted the Kremlin Cup in 2012, and his last final was the New York Open last February.

The 37-year old has been struggling for results since switching to American hard courts, with his only win coming against the Japanese world number 123, Yasutake Uchiyama, in the first round of Washington.

Otherwise, it has been a story of early defeats, including last week in Winston-Salem, where he was beaten by Ilya Ivashka of Belarus.

Wimbledon Quarter-Finalist Fucsovics

Last September, Fucsovics reached the third round of the US  Open or the first time in his career, and then emulated that achievement in  Melbourne.

The Hungarian number one though did even better than that at Wimbledon this year, reaching his maiden Grand Slam quarter-final before losing to the eventual champion Novak Djokovic.

That run helped propel him back into the top 40, although his ranking has slipped marginally since, in part because he chose to take more than a month off, skipping the Olympics, before returning to action in Cincinnati, where he was beaten by Felix Auger-Aliassime in the first round.

Last week in Winston-Salem he beat Yosuke Watanake of Japan in the first-round, bit them went down in three sets to the rising Spanish teenage star, Carlos Alcaraz.

Fuscovics v Seppi Prediction and Tip

Fucsovics should win this match comfortably against an opponent whose best days would now appear to be behind him.
