Canadian Marino has been a part of the ITF circuit in recent times, winning the odd match on the WTA tour but that was enough to earn her a wildcard entry at Montreal Open.
And what she did there would have given her a huge boost, as she stunned two far superior opponents to make it to the third round.
Marino, ranked 175th in the world, sent Madison Keys packing in straight sets but more vitally, going in at 4/1 odds in her second round match against Paula Badosa, she overcame a set deficit to carve out a three-set victory over the Spaniard.
While taking on Svitolina will be an onerous task, she has already defeated three players in the qualifiers and sometimes a momentum of this kind could go a long way in helping the lower-ranked player.
