Krejcikova at Her Maiden US Open!

She is 25, a world number nine and a Grand Slam singles and doubles winner. And yet, Krejcikova has never made it past the qualifying rounds at US Open before this!

Essentially, Krejcikova enters her maiden US Open main draw as someone ranked ninth in the world. That’s quite a stunning stat, if not a bizarre one.

Krejcikova has obviously turned things around in her singles play over the last couple of seasons, which has seen her win three titles in 2021. Other than the shock French Open victory, Krejcikova went on to also lift the trophy on the hard courts of Prague Open, and more recently was a quarterfinalist at Cincinnati Open.

Here, she defeated Daria Kasatkina, Dayana Yastremska and Garbine Muguruza before falling to Ash Barty in the last eight.

With that kind of form under her belt, Krejcikova shouldn’t have much of an issue getting past her qualifier opponent.

Sharma Hasn’t Won on Hard Courts Since Guadalajara

When she made it to the quarterfinal of the Guadalajara Open as a qualifier earlier this year in March, it looked like Sharma was finally turning the corner. Unfortunately for her, things haven’t gone too well in hard court tournaments since then.

In the three such tournaments she played before entering the US Open qualifiers, Sharma lost her opening qualifying round match each time and it was only when she took to court for this final Grand Slam that things looked to be getting back on track.

A couple of straight-set wins over Viktoria Kuzmova and Susan Bandecchi were followed by a comeback from behind victory against Harmony Tan in her final qualifying round that took her to her third US Open main draw.

Unfortunately for her, the chances of winning her first ever match at US Open look very bleak given the opponent in question.

Krejcikova v Sharma Prediction and Tip

Krejcikova is a red-hot favourite here given her form and given her opponent’s obvious struggles and we could be looking at a straight-set win.
