Angelique Kerber v Dayana Yastremska Head to Head

There has been only previous meeting between these two players, and it came at the 2020 Adelaide International where Yastremska was a set and 2-0 up in the second when Kerber retired from the match.

Kerber Slowly Regaining Form

It has been an underwhelming couple of seasons for Kerber but in more recent times, results have begun to go her way again. And this has been evident in the last three tournaments she has played in, two on grass and one as a part of the US Open Series.

At Bad Homburg Open in her native Germany, Kerber stunned a few players to lift the title – her first since 2019 – and played some of her best tennis to march into the semifinal at Wimbledon.

And as if to prove her form wasn’t restricted to her favourite surface, grass, Kerber shocked Maria Sakkari, Elina Svitolina and Petra Kvitova to seal her place in the semifinal at Cincinnati where Ash Barty finally got the better of her.

Which is why it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise Kerber starts off as a very heavy favourite here.

Yastremska Has Struggled on Return

Having been suspended from tennis for doping charges, Yastremska return to the sport hasn’t been as seamless as she would have liked.

Sure, she won a couple of rounds at Hamburg Open to make it to the semifinal there, but since then has won just one of the five matches she has played in on hard courts.

First round exits at the Tokyo Olympics, San Jose Open and Montreal Open were followed by her first win at Cincinnati where she scraped past Caty McNally in her opener. This, however, was followed by another defeat, a straight-set loss to Barbora Krejcikova that has meant she will have it rather difficult in this opener here.

Yastremska’s only hope here is to try and improve her performance enough to give her some kind of a boost for the rest of the season.

Kerber v Yastremska Prediction and Tip

Kerber’s shown what she is capable of in recent times and against a player who has looked out of sorts since her return, this should be an easy call.
