Humbert Hoping for Halle-Like Showing
Humbert won his third senior career title on the grass of Halle in June, putting the trophy alongside his two successes on hard courts in 2020, the Auckland Open and the European Open in Antwerp.
Now he needs to translate that form into the Grand Slam arena – he has never been beyond the second round in any of the four tournaments – the stage he has twice reached in New York.
Chosen to play for France at the Olympics, he got to the quarter-final stage, but was denied the chance to play for a medal by Karen Khachanov of Russia.
Switching to the American hard court circuit, he got to the second round in Toronto, before losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas, although he did have the satisfaction of taking a set off the world number three.
He was last in action in Cincinnati, where he was beaten in the first round by Frances Tiafoe.

Gojowczyk Comes Through Qualifying
The German with Polish roots came through three rounds of qualifying just to get to this stage, beating first Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic in three sets, and then Robin Haase of the Netherlands and the Argentine Francisco Cerundulo in straight sets.
This will be the sixth time he has featured in the main draw at Flushing Meadows, with back-to-back second round appearances in 2013 and 2014 the best he has managed.
He divides his time between the senior tour and the Challenger circuit these days, with his best result of the year coming back in February, where he got to the semi-finals in Montpellier, having also had to qualify there, before losing to Roberto Bautista-Agut.
Prior to Flushing Meadows, he qualified in Atlanta, before losing to Jordan Thompson in the second round.
Humbert v Gojowczyk Prediction and Tip
Humbert has a modest record in Grand Slams, but he will never have a better chance of getting his 2021 US Open campaign off to a winning start against the German qualifier who, himself, has never been beyond the second round in New York.
Tip: Humbert to win in straight sets: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
