David Goffin v Mackenzie McDonald Head to Head
Goffin and McDonald have played each other just once till date. Their only previous head-to-head meeting came in the opening round of the 2013 Cincinnati Masters, with Goffin cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win.

Goffin, whose progress this season has been hit by sporadic injury struggles, returned to Tour action at the Cincinnati Masters after conceding his third-round tie against Corentin Moutet at Halle with an injury.
Drawing seasoned Argentine Guido Pella in his tournament opener, the Belgian failed to show up against his rival, going down in straight sets. Coming back from an injury, Goffin looked clearly out of sorts and short of a gallop as he struggled to impose himself on his opponent.
In fact, it was Pella who climbed all over the hapless Belgian and had him on the ropes. It wasn’t long before the Argentine put the veteran out of his misery, closing out a comfortable and commanding 6-3, 6-3 win.
While he doesn’t have time on his side as he bids to fix the flaws in his game and gets into gear for the US Open, there is little in the draw to enable the Belgian to derive any respite.
McDonald has been in rampaging form in the recent weeks and came within a whisker of lifting his maiden Tour title at the Washington Open.
While he failed to clear the final hurdle against Italian Jannik Sinner, there was enough in his run at the event to give him confidence going into the Flushing Meadows.
Hence, Goffin will be under pressure to find form and play his best tennis if he has to get past the American.

McDonald Made Third Round in Cincinnati
Following up on his third-round finish at the Atlanta Open, McDonald reached the final of the Washington Open.
The American produced scintillating tennis in a sensational campaign, which included upsets over Nick Kyrgios, Benoit Paire and Kei Nishikori.
Though he followed up his Washington run with an opening-round exit at the Canadian Open and a third-round defeat at the Cincinnati Masters, he has enough hard-court form and confidence behind him to mount a serious title challenge at the US Open.
Though he will open his campaign against a vastly experienced and skilled opponent in Goffin, he currently has the form to put it past the best.
Goffin v McDonald Prediction and Tip
Though short on experience and ranking, McDonald, on the evidence of his recent run of results, will start as a slight favorite against Goffin in this first-round clash. However, if the Belgian can find the spark that he needs to put himself in contention for the title, he will be hard to stop.
