Christina McHale v Emma Navarro Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.

McHale Looking to Build on Recent Doubles Success

Christina McHale will be playing at the Flushing Meadows following a doubles final appearance in the Cleveland Open last week.

Partnered with Sania Mirza, the duo reached the final before losing to the pairing of Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara. Now, McHale will look to take positives from that performance and deliver a turnaround in her abysmal singles form.

The 29-year-old American has lost five of her last six singles matches on the tour. Her sole singles win in the recent weeks came in the Canadian Open qualifiers.

Most of McHale’s season is dotted with these early-round defeats barring a handful of tournaments where she did make it to the second round or so – Adelaide and Charleston. So if the 119th-ranked American manages to reach the second round here in the US Open, it would be her best singles performance in 2021.

Navarro Starting as a Wildcard

20-year-old Emma Navarro has spent the 2021 season alternating between the ITF and WTA events to build some momentum.

While she hasn’t won a title yet, she did reach the quarterfinal in a couple of ITF events. But the fact she is currently World No. 337 means she still has ways to go ahead of her.

In her last couple of tournaments of the Cincinnati Open and Chicago Open, she was beaten in the opening qualifying round.

As a junior player, Navarro made it to the finals at the 2019 French Open – singles and doubles. She lost the former to Leylah Ann Fernandez but won the doubles title with Chloe Beck. The duo were also the runner-up in the same year’s Australian Open.

McHale v Navarro Prediction and Tip

McHale is the superior player here in every regard and should do well to reach the next round comfortably.
