Jessica Pegula v Anastasia Potapova Head to Head
They met once at the qualifiers in Doha this year, which Pegula won in three sets.

Pegula on the Rise
Pegula has been impressive from the start of the season and, although title-less, her ability to consistently make deep runs tournament after tournament has allowed her to scale new heights.
Currently on a career-high ranking of 25, the American heads to her home slam in solid form, having recently made the semifinals of the Canadian Open. Pegula showed nerves of steel as she won four back-to-back three-setters, three of them after falling behind in the first set. What’s more, the wins came against some top players in Annett Kontaveit, Anasatasia Pavlyuchenkova, Danielle Collins and Ons Jabeur (quarterfinal). But despite that effort she couldn’t find a place in a maiden final this year as she was edged out by Giorgi, also in three.
The semifinal appearance at a WTA 1000 was one of the many firsts for the 27-year-old this season, who also made her last eight debut at a major with a stellar showing at the Australian Open where she accounted for Victoria Azarenka in the first round and Elina Svitolina in the Round of 16.
She continued her ascendency through the hard court season in the first quarter, reaching the semifinals in Doha, the quarterfinals in Dubai and the Round of 16 in Miami. Clay did slow her down a bit, but a run to the last eight in Rome and the third round at the French Open were more than impressive.
How far can she go at the U.S. Open? She is on a collision course with Belinda Bencic in the third round. That should be a cracking contest if both get through the initial rounds, and things would only get tougher from their on.

Potapova Can Pack a Punch
She had a stunning start to the season, reaching the third round of the Australian Open and the quarterfinals in Dubai, taking down some of the top names in the sport, and continued punching above her weight in Birmingham.
However, the 20-year-old seems to have lost that form a bit, but she will take heart from her recent win over Shelby Rogers in the first round of the Canadian Open and will look to clinch her first win at the U.S. Open in only second appearance.
Some of the top players that the Russian defeated this season include Belinda Bencic and Madison Keys in Dubai, and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in Istanbul. It will be interesting to see if Pegula joins that list on Tuesday.
Pegula v Potapova Prediction and Tip
Pegula will be wary of Potapova’s giant-killing ability, but such has been the American’s form that she should come out unscathed.
