It will be a first meeting between the two 24-year-olds.

Ostapenko Has a Winning Record in 2021

World No. 30 and 2017 French Open champion brings a 23-15 season record to her sixth U.S. Open. An absentee last year, Ostapenko reached the third round in New York for three consecutive years from 2017 to 2019.

The 27th seed, who won her fourth career title and a first in two years in Eastbourne, has struggled over the last three tournaments. She was knocked out of the first rounds in Tokyo and Montreal, but won two matches in Cincinnati, one of them after Jennifer Brady retired midway.

So the Latvian is not in the best of forms, but she did show signs of regaining her touch in Cincinnati and will be backing herself to win the initial rounds.

Podoroska Returns to U.S. Open After 5 Years

Podoroska will be returning to the U.S. Open for the first time since making her debut in 2016. And her maiden appearance didn’t last too long either as she was knocked out in the first round.

The 2020 French Open semifinalist has always preferred the clay surface and doesn’t have a great record on hard courts this season, coming in with a 9-10 record on the surface, including the Olympics. She had bright start to the season in Melbourne though, reaching the quarterfinals of the Yarra Valley Classic.

There were high expectations from the Argentine on clay, but barring two quarterfinals there weren’t many moments to celebrate.

The world No. 37 will have her task cut out against Ostapenko in the first round and it will take a massive effort from her to progress into the second round.

Ostapenko v Podoroska Prediction and Tip

A battle between the World No. 30 and World No. 37 is expected to be a tough one. Expect both players to win a set, but the Latvian should eventually win in three.
