Having reached his maiden ATP final in Winston Salem last week, the Swede will be taking a lot of confidence into his second U.S. Open.
Ymer, who improved his season record to 16-13 at Winston Salem, is 9-5 on hard courts this year and that includes a run to the third rounds of the Australian and Miami Opens. The Swede, 22, who accounted for Hubert Hurkacz in Melbourne and Gael Monfils at the French Open, also made a third round debut at Roland Garros.
Before coming to the U.S., Ymer reached back-to-back quarterfinals in GStaad and Kitzbuhel, thus bringing in a 9-3 record from his previous three tournaments. With someone in such great touch, one can only expect them to start well at the U.S. Open, but an opening round match against another player who has turned heads with his exceptional performances over the last one month, won’t make things easy for the Swede.
Last week, Ymer beat Frances Tiafoe and Carlos Alcaraz on his way to the final, but finished runner-up to Ilya Ivashka.

Brooksby Will Be a Crowd Favourite
He broke into the top 100 for the first time this month. The World no. 99 will now be looking to keep climbing the rankings with a solid display in his third U.S. Open.
The 20-year-old has been brilliant over the last two months, reaching his maiden ATP final in Newport and following it up with a semifinal appearance at the ATP 500 in Washington.
He brings in an 8-4 record to the tournament and has already shown that he can punch above his weight over the last few weeks. Some of the top players that he defeated in Washington include Kevin Anderson, who had beaten him in the Newport final; Frances Tiafoe; Felix Auger-Aliassime; and John Millman.
There will be huge support for the Next gen American and that can drive him to win a few matches in the tournament.
Ymer v Brooksby Prediction and Tip
There will be little to choose between the two. Expect this to be a cracking contest, with the local favourite winning in more than three sets.
