Daniil Medvedev v Dominik Koepfer Head to Head
There has been one previous outing between these two players, and that came at the 2019 US Open. That fourth round encounter was won by Medvedev in four sets.

It took Medvedev nearly two hours on the court but he carved out a straight-set win in the end over Richard Gasquet to move into round two.
The Russian won 6-4, 6-3, 6-1, facing a mere two break-points in the entire match and saving it both times. Bombarding Gasquet with 15 aces, Medvedev also won 88% of his first serve points, and carved out five breaks of serves in the encounter.
Having won the Toronto Masters recently and making the semifinal at Cincinnati, Medvedev is one of the favourites to challenge the world number one Novak Djokovic for his crown and the kind of start he has made should keep in a good stead.
Coming up against Koepfer, there shouldn’t be a lot he would need to change as he bids to emulate his last two showings at the US Open – a final and semifinal respectively.

Koepfer in Strife against Halys
Ranked 183rd in the world, Quentin Halys wasn’t expected to put up much of a fight against Koepfer but in the end, the German ended up needing five sets to come through to the win.
Koepfer was on court for over three and a half hours and came back from two sets to one down to clinch his second round berth 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
In the end, the difference between the two players turned out to be that crucial break of serve in the third game of the final set which Koepfer carved out to take a 2-1 lead. The German then faced five break-points in the entire set, saved them all before winning the encounter off his third match-point.
And while that fighting win would provide a tremendous boost to his confidence, Koepfer will know he will need to do a lot more than just that against a player of the calibre of Medvedev.
