Frances Tiafoe v Guido Pella Head to Head
Tiafoe and Pella have never been involved in a head-to-head clash before. However, with both the Argentine and the American accomplished hard-court players, to the extent that they can lord over the best on their day, tennis fans can expect a fascinating showdown.

Tiafoe Fights Past Eubanks in Opener
Coming into the Flushing Meadows on the back of a quarter-final finish at the Winston-Salem Open, Tiafoe drew compatriot Christopher Eubanks in the first round.
The 50th-ranked American, who has a subtle side to his game alongside powerful groundstrokes and a heavy serve, had to overcome stiff resistance from his compatriot in the opening set, which went to a tiebreak.
Eubanks, who fought gamely up until then, also stayed neck-to-neck with Tiafoe in the tiebreak before latter pipped him 10-8 to take the opening set.
After coming out on the losing side of a closely-fought first set, Eubanks channeled his hurt to come out fighting on all cylinders in the second and his effort paid off as he got himself a break of serve and held on to his lead to win the set 7-5.
Though stunned momentarily by his opponent’s fightback, Tiafoe raised his level up a notch to take the next couple of sets by comfortable margins, closing out a win in four and setting up a second-round meeting with experienced Argentine Guido Pella.
While they haven’t played each other before, the burly American would have seen enough of his opponent in the circuit and will have a game plan etched out in his mind to take him down in his next.

Pella Triumphs Over Krajinovic
With a decent run of results behind him in the North American hard-court leg — a last 16 finish at the Cincinnati Masters followed by an opening-round exit at Winston-Salem Open — Pella drew a tough first-round opponent in Serbian Filip Krajinovic at the US Open.
On the evidence of the first round, which went to Krajinovic via a tiebreaker, it did look as if the Serb was on course to reaching the second round.
However, Pella came storming back into the contest, winning the second set by a commanding margin. With a spring in his step, the Argentine moved up a gear to run through the third and fourth sets, closing out a comfortable win in the end.
He faces a tough road to the second round though, facing the feisty Tiafoe in what is already being billed as an absorbing clash.
The American upset current World No.3 Stefanos Tsitsipas on the way to reaching the third round at this year’s Wimbledon Championships and, with a roaring home ground behind him, he will be a hard man to beat.
Tiafoe v Pella Prediction and Tip
With head-to-head history between them, it will all come down to who handles the pressure of expectations better on the day. However, Tiafoe will start as a slight favorite in this second-round tie as he is likely to hog the home support. The Argentine, though, will trust his skills and tenacity to get the better of his opponent and the crowd.
