Roberto Bautista Agut v Emil Ruusuvuori Head to Head
Agut and Ruusuvuori have never played each other before. However, both are coming off impressive wins in their opening-round fixtures and are expecting to produce pulsating tennis in their first-ever head-to-head clash.

Agut had arrived at the Flushing Meadows on the back of a mixed run of results – a quarter-final finish at the Canadian Open followed up by an opening-round loss to Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov at the Cincinnati Masters.
Ranked just outside the Top-20 in singles currently, the Spaniard opened his US Open campaign against maverick Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios.
Channeling his hurt from the Cincinnati defeat to build motivation for his opening clash at the Louis Armstrong Stadium, Agut produced near-flawless tennis to down his burly, Canberra-born opponent in straight sets.
The Spaniard bossed Kyrgios in the early exchanges and the same was reflected in the score-line as the former opened up a healthy lead over the latter and built on it to take the first set by a comfortable margin.
Though the Aussie produced some fleeting moments of magic to loud cheers from the full house, the Spaniard kept up the pressure on his opponent and was duly rewarded with the second set.
While the crowd would have had hopes of Kyrgios staging another heroic fightback of the kind that was seen against Ugo Humbert at this year’s Wimbledon Championships, it wasn’t to be on the day.
In fact, such was the extent of the Spaniard’s dominance that he bageled the hapless Aussie in the third to come away with a facile 6-3, 6-4, 6-0 win.
However, between Agut and a place in the second round stands Emil Russuvuori, a rising Finnish star who recorded a semifinal finish in the tournament preceding the year’s last Grand Slam.

Ruusuvuori Battles Past Majchrzak
Coming into the Flushing Meadows on the back of a sizzling run to the semifinal at the Winston-Salem Open, his last event, Russuvuori had a measure of form behind him as he set sights on making a mark at the US Open.
And, the run of form that saw him upset the likes of Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan and veteran French rivals Benoit Paire and Richard Gasquet was yet again in evidence in the opening round, as the Finn recovered from a mid-match slump to beat Kamil Majchrzak of Poland.
Russuvuori took the first two sets in a breeze, only to see the Pole staging a valiant fightback and taking the contest to a fourth set.
However, the 22-year-old Finn held his nerve in the decider and played a near flawless set of tennis in the fourth, to get over the line in the end. The final score-line read 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in the Finn’s favor.
In Agut, Ruusuvuori faces a much stronger, seasoned and accomplished opponent in the second round. However, he will go into the contest undeterred, upbeat from his returns at Winston-Salem and his first-round outing against Majchrzak.
Agut v Ruusuvuori Prediction and Tip
In terms of ranking and experience and also on the evidence of his first-round rout of Kyrgios, Agut should start as an overwhelming favorite in this second-round tie. However. Russuvuori has the run of form to mount a serious title challenge and won’t be a pushover on the day.
