Strong Opening Win For Rublev
World number 7 Andrey Rublev started his 2021 US Open at the back of a good season overall, but falling short at the majors and is determined to have a good run this time around.
Rublev started his campaign against Croat veteran Ivo Karlovic who was playing his last tournament of his career and thus inevitably had the support of the crowd, having come through a difficult round of qualifiers.
The Russian started strong breaking Karlovic early and wrapping up the opening set 6-3. The Croat upped the serving in the second set as it headed to a tiebreak which Rublev won with some strong returning. It was only a matter of time there on before Rublev proceeded to the next round in straight sets and a long career of Dr.Ivo (Karlovic) came to an end.
Rublev will hope to run through an efficient first week reserving energy for the bigger challenges of week two that lie ahead

Martinez Prevails In Tussle
Young Spaniard Pedro Martinez has had a decent season as he looks to establish himself on the ATP tour.
He started well on the hard courts making the third round of the Aussie Open, but since then has mostly played on the clay. He made the second round of the French Open defeating rising American Seb Korda as well as surprised all with a round of 32 at Wimbledon defeating Gael Monfils en route.
In addition, Martinez made the round of 16 at a few other clay court tournaments including a first ever ATP final at Kitzbuhel where he lost to Austrian Casper Ruud.
Up against Aussie James Duckworth, Martinez was down by two sets but then came back strong to save match points and win the tiebreak 9-7 in the third and then close the match 6-2,6-2 in the fourth and fifth sets.
Martinez has an uphill battle against Rublev but will be confident after his last win with nothing to lose.
Rublev v Martinez Prediction and Tip
Martinez has shown at many points this season that he has the talent and belief to move further along in his career. But, it was a long opener for the Spaniard and Rublev is in good touch on this surface. Expect a straight sets win for the Russian.
