Ashleigh Barty v Clara Tauson Head to Head

The World No. 1 was in cruise control in the first set, but things became really difficult in the second with the former No. 2 raising her game in a bid to make a comeback. Eventually the top seed Ash Barty saw off Vera Zvonareva 6-1, 7-6 (9-7) and advanced to the next round of the U.S. Open.
After dominating the first set with two breaks of serve, Barty was the first to break in the second to go 2-1 up, but the veteran Russian broke back immediately to keep it on serve. The Australian nudged ahead again with another break to serve for the match at 5-4, but the Russian refused to give in, breaking again to keep the set alive.
The set ultimately needed a tiebreaker and both players matched each other shot-for-shot, point-for-point for the first 15 points, before Zvonareva hit one long ending a gripping rally and the match. Barty had needed just 25 minutes to win the first set but more than an hour to win the second.
With the victory, the Cincinnati Open champion extended her win streak to six matches.
A two time Grand Slam winner, Barty is chasing a second major this year following her Wimbledon success. In all she has won five titles in 2021, including triumphs at the Miami Open, Stuttgart Open and the Yarra Valley Classic. She also came close to a sixth in Madrid, but was denied the title by Aryna Sabalenka.

Tauson Knocks Out Burel
World No. 78 Clara Tauson needed just an hour and 14 minutes to win her first-ever match at the U.S. Open.
The 18-year-old had to tough it out against France’s Clara Burel in the first set, but she overpowered her opponent in the second for a convincing 7-5, 6-0 victory.
Broken in the very first game of the match, Tauson won the next five games in a row to take a 5-1 lead. However, it wasn’t easy for her to close the set as Burel fought back by winning the next four games in a row and drawing level at 5-5. Tauson seized back control of the set by holding serve at 5-5 and then broke Burel for a fourth time to close out the set.
The Frenchwoman just couldn’t match Tauson’s level in the second, with the Dane printing to the finish line.
It’s been a terrific year for the 18-year-old, who won her maiden WTA title in Lyon and captured a WTA 125 title in Chicago in the lead-up to the U.S. Open.
