Number 31 seed Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan defeated the German Yannick Hanfmann 6-0, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 in a little under two hours to reach round two at the Flushing Meadows. While he struck 48 winners and 18 aces, the fact that he committed 40 unforced errors and 10 double faults may not be forgiven against a player like Sock.
Currently ranked World No. 37 – his best singles ranking yet, Bublik has had a pretty decent year on the singles and doubles circuit. At the start of the season, he reached the final at the Antalya Open and Singapore Open and later followed it with quarterfinal appearances in the Miami Open and Madrid Open.
In the events leading up to the US Open, however, Bublik’s form was less than eventful. With early-round exits in Washington, Toronto, Cincinnati, and Winston-Salem, he arrived at the Flushing Meadows with not that much momentum. And now, he faces his toughest test yet when he takes on Jack Sock.

Sock Seeking Redemption in New York
Former World No. 8 Jack Sock is finding the way back to his pre-injury days when he was a top-10 player and a regular in the penultimate rounds on the ATP Tour.
Currently placed #184 in the singles rankings, the 28-year-old American has spent the better part of the season on the Challenger circuit to rebuild his form and develop some momentum. He won the Little Rock event in May and later won the doubles title in the ATP Hall of Fame Open with William Blumberg.
A prolific doubles player with four majors to his name, Sock has done well in the past to build an equally commendable singles legacy. His accomplishments include the Paris Masters cup along with reaching the semifinal in the Indian Wells Open and ATP Finals.
As for his recent run, Sock lost in the early rounds in Atlanta, Washington, and Cincinnati. In the US Open opener, he defeated Yoshihito Nishioka 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 to kickstart his campaign.
Bublik v Sock Prediction and Tip
Bublik will start as the odds-on favourite but given Sock’s rich pedigree and experience, it is fair to assume that anything can happen. Expect a scintillating game of tennis, one that is likely to see multiple games and sets.
