Denis Shapovalov v Lloyd Harris Head to Head

Harris is 1-0, having won the semifinal in Dubai earlier this year. The match went down the wire with the South African winning 6-7, 6-4, 7-6.

Shapovalov Cruises Into the Third Round

The World No. 10 came into the tournament on the back of four consecutive losses, which began with the straight sets defeat to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon semifinal. Two matches into the U.S. Open, and Shapovalov seems to be in cruise control.

Having never exited the U.S. Open in the first two rounds, the last year’s quarterfinalist kept the trend going as he knocked out Spain’s Roberto Carballes Baena 7-6 (9-7), 6-3, 6-0 in just over two hours to march into the third round. Converting 5 of 8 break points in the match, Shapovalov struck 50 winners and made 29 unforced errors compared to Carballes Baena’s 13 winners and 14 unforced errors.

Broken once by Carballes Baena, Shapovalov had not faced a single break point in the first round as he breezed past Federico Debonis 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 in just an hour and 49 minutes.

It’s been a another decent year for the lefty, who finished runner-up in Geneva and was a semifinalist Dubai and Queen’s. But his biggest success came at Wimbledon, where he reached the final four of a major for the first time.

Harris Breezes Past Escobedo

World No. 46 Lloyd Harris needed over three hours to win his first-round match against Karen Khachanov, but didn’t have much trouble in dispatching the World No. 178 Ernesto Escobedo in the second round to move into the Round of 32 at the U.S. Open for the first time in his career.

Earlier this year, the South African had made his third round debut at the majors by winning the first two round at the Australian Open.

Against Escobedo, Harris struck 21 aces and 44 winners for a dominant 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 victory. In the first round, Harris accounted for the Olympic silver medalist, defeating him 6-4, 1-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Overall, Harris has had a solid year, reaching a maiden ATP 500 final in Dubai and also breaking into the top 50. His current form hasn’t been too bad either as he reached the quarterfinals in Washington and the Round of 16 in Toronto in the tune-up to the U.S. Open.

Shapovalov v Harris Prediction and Tip

Shapovalov will have revenge in his mind when he takes the court on Saturday. He was edged out in the semifinal in Dubai but, being the stronger player, will back himself to win and advance to the Round of 16.
