Karolina Pliskova v Ajla Tomljanovic Head to Head
Across all levels, Karolina Pliskova will bring a commanding 5-1 record over Tomljanovic. But the pair have not played each other since a Round of 16 meeting in Brisbane in 2020. And Saturday’s match will also be their first collision at Grand Slam level.

Pliskova Records Historic Win Over Anisimova
In one of the most nail-biting finishes at this year’s US Open, Karolina Pliskova edged out 20-year-old Amanda Anisimova 7-5 6-7 7-6 under the lights on Arthur Ashe to reach the third round. And in the process, she ended Anisimova’s bid of making an imprint at her home Slam.
Pliskova had one foot out of the tournament when she faced a match point in that incredible final set tiebreak. But in a fascinating turn of events, she was given a lifeline after Anisimova netted a backhand at 6-7.
The Czech’ serve which is her major asset, came to the fore. She served an astounding 24 aces – the most by a woman at the US Open since data was recorded in 1998.
The match itself lived on a knife-edge for over two hours. And with huge momentum shifts, and very few margins neither player had envisaged the thought of throwing it all away. After Pliskova wrapped up a tight first set, the pair did not drop serve in the second and third sets.
The stat sheet corresponds to the narrative of this match. Both players landed at least 70% first serves. Both players hit a surprisingly high double-digit winner to unforced errors. Pliskova won 121 points to Anisimova’s 113, but the most important stat of the lot is Pliskova’s breakpoint conversion and her ace count which swung the pendulum in her favor.

Tomljanovic Surprises Martic
In a low-key affair on Court 5 on Thursday, Ajla Tomljanovic sneaked into the third round without too much gaze. She stunned the 30th-seeded Petra Martic to reach the third round of the US Open for the first time.
Tomljanovic who came to this year’s US Open under lingering health issues – after retiring from Montreal due to heat concerns and sweltering conditions – has looked in good form in New York. She is yet to drop a set in two matches and will look to scale a major roadblock on Saturday.
Tomljanovic’s numbers in beating Martic were not entirely decent. She did post some good numbers behind her first serve, but will certainly need to polish up her second serve which teetered at around 32% mark. Her 17 winners to 38 unforced errors if repeated, could have far-reaching consequences against a player of Pliskova’s caliber.
The Australian’s lone victory over the Czech came in their first meeting, exactly 10 years ago at the Clearwater ITF.
Pliskova v Tomljanovic Prediction and Tip
Pliskova showed remarkable resilience to dig out an unlikely win against Anisimova. If she can produce another serving masterclass on Saturday, it is tough to imagine a different outcome.
Tip: Pliskova to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
